11 Skills Of People You Want On Your Church Leadership Team
Yesterday I wrote a post entitled 10 People You Do Not Want On Your Church Leadership Team. This post hit a nerve in the Christian leadership community as it went viral.Because of the popularity of identifying people you do not want on your team, I want to be balanced and present 11 Skills Of People You Want On Your Church Leadership Team. This post will give you a framework for identifying emerging leaders and equipping those already in place.
- Knowledge – I describe knowledge as the ability to have the discernment needed to uncover the real issues facing churches and church leaders.
- Insight – Insight is the ability to then find solutions to the issues you have uncovered.
- Perspective – Decisions are made in light of whether or not they advance the church’s mission and vision. People you want on your team say, “I think before I do.”
- Strategic Decision-Making Skills – Understanding timing is a key ingredient to great leadership. This is the ability to make sure all decisions are sequenced properly. People you want on your team have the ability to connect things together.
- Resource Deployment – As the people you want on your team begin to address issues and advance mission and vision, they are constantly aware if the right people are in the right seats? They then ensure they have everything they need to be successful.
- Wisdom – People with wisdom have street smarts. They are quick on their feet. People you want on your team excel in the heat of battle and facing “live bullets”.
- People Skills – For Christian leaders it is best to ask for God’s help knowing He wants to tell an amazing story about His Son through each and every life you encounter. They see the best in people.
- Listening Skills – People you want on your team are willing to listen. Not just be heard.
- Responsiveness – Some people want a 24-hour guy. I do not want this but I look for a deep sense of ownership of the church’s mission and vision.
- Spiritual Maturity – People you want on your team must be on a positive trajectory regarding their relationship with Jesus.
- Respect – People you want on your team have self-respect, respect for authority and respect for everyone they serve.
