7 Leadership Quotes And Lessons From Jordan Spieth

oday, Jordan Spieth had a chance to capture his second consecutive Masters championship.  But an epic collapse occurred when he bogeyed 10, bogeyed 11, and shockingly quadrupled bogeyed 12.
However, there is still an uncommon grace, dignity and resolve to the 22-year-old Austin, Texas native.  In the April 4th edition of Sports Illustrated, writer S.L. Price profiled who I still feel is the world’s finest golfer.
The following are 7 Leadership Quotes And Lessons From Jordan Spieth I gleaned from the article which all leaders can learn from:
  1. Spieth Feeds Off Positive Energy – His friend Cody Gribble says, “The guy thrives under stuff like that.  He starts feeling comfortable when he’s got a home crowd cheering him on.”
  2. Spieth Senses And Seizes Momentum – Gribble continues, “And when he gets a bit of momentum?  You’re not going to stop him.”
  3. Spieth Generates Revenue – In 2015, Spieth won $22 million.
  4. Spieth Now Deals With High Expectations And Burn Out – Fellow golfer Jason Day said, “I was worried about him…I just don’t want him to be burned out, because he is so much a part of the game.  He’s important to golf.”
  5. Spieth Must Deal With Pressue – He said, “To be honest, it could be a good thing for me going into the Masters.  More (pressure) on other people.  Less on me.”
  6. Spieth Carries On The Sport’s Tradition – Legendary Texas golfer Ben Crenshaw said, “I’m just having the best time watching him carry on that Texas tradition.”
  7. Spieth Is Resilient – Gribble continues, “If he makes a mistake, you can guarantee a fire has just been lit.”
***Bonus***  The following are 4 additional quotes from Spieth’s CBS interview immediately following the conclusion of the Masters:
  1. Successful Leaders Are Disciplined – “It was a lack of discipline hitting it over that bunker coming off two bogeys recognizing I’m still leading the Masters by a couple of shots.”
  2. Successful Leaders Stay With What Works – “You get away from the game plan I was using on the front 9 and you get a little conservative.”
  3. Even Successful Leaders Deal With Disappointment – “Pretty sure I’ll be disappointed with that one (Masters loss).”
  4. Success Can Be Lost At A Moment In Time – “It was a really a very tough 30 minutes for me.”
2 More Leadership Quotes from ESPN:
  • Successful Leaders Must Stay Focused – “I didn’t take that deep breath and focus on that line on 12.”
  • Successful Leaders Consistently Bring Their A-Game – “Ultimately you have to have your A-game with every single part.”
Then if it is true mistakes light a fire in Spieth, then what happened after holes 10-12 should put all other PGA golfers on notice for the remainder of 2016.
